Fantasy Drawing Books

I warn you I'll be gushing about this book! And yet it was not a foregone conclusion. I learned of this sketchbook after discussion with a friend about the designers who participated in the adaptation of Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson. My friend tried to convince me that despite all the talent of Howe, he was not commensurate with that of Lee, to which I retorted that the drawings of Howe touched me more because of their dynamism, their epic, in my meaning absent works of Lee, who seemed frozen. And there she made me this book in my hands, I opened and I was simply overwhelmed, deeply moved, touched as never had an artbook able to touch me. But first things first. The "Brief sketch of Lord of the Rings" brings together so many sketches created by Lee in connection with his work on the film by Peter Jackson and a few from the book "Lord of the Rings" which he illustrated to mark the centenary of the birth of Tolkien. The sketches are accompanied by commentaries written by Alan Lee, composing a kind of personal making of which reveals the creative process of the artist, his sources of inspiration, its constraints as well as anecdotes that make us a glimpse of the great adventure human that was producing the film. So many little doors open on the world of the artist. After that we will love this book or not, these are the drawings. And here the word that comes to mind is "quintessence". As I said in my introduction, I discovered the great artist Alan Lee through this book, an accomplished artist, technical, imaginative and fair. Just open the book to the first page to understand. The book opens, like those of Tolkien, on a map of Middle Earth, with beautiful ornaments, and the first sketch has itself: a sumptuous Treebeard. And then we shoot her first "wow!" the first in a long series. The profusion of detail, delicacy of line, "texture" incredible fantasy drawing books . . All without color, with a single mine chart. Looking more closely one sees mostly scribbles: simple pencil back and forth with rare contours, as if the artist had produced this fantasy drawing books "bareback", although it is clear that we to do a sketch very worked. The panel designs range from simple sketch to sketch very mature, sometimes on the same grounds. The sketches provide insight into how the artist constructs his drawings. SUCCESSFUL sketches offer true moments of wonder: the bravura on double pages as the marsh of the dead, the mountains of Caradhras, battle scenes etc. . Or turning a page, when you fall on ornaments or parts of elven armor finely chiseled, almost real and laid there, nonchalantly in a corner of the page. That whole world of Tolkien, and his whole magic comes to life before our eyes. Who is REALLY life: the characters are expressive, there is a real breath that emerges from these drawings, a great organic. Totally the opposite of the impression I had on the work of Alan Lee before. So I say quintessential because I think to arrive to provide such a result in the complex beauty of strict simplicity of a graphite mine and a sheet of paper, the basic raw art is the essence of a true artist. Generally that's why I love sketchbooks: thus we see the guts of the artist. In sum, the "Brief sketch of Lord of the Rings" offers a breathtaking journey to the heart of Tolkien's universe, we take full eyes. A work up to that of the writer, he was doubtful. Well, you all know, vampires are in vogue. But in fact, beyond the Twilight phenomenon or Bit-bed, they never ceased to fascinate d. . There are cycles in fantasy drawing books literature is undeniable that some of vague themes and characters take center stage as the space . . As long as there's rock and roll, there will be life! And when more rock invites himself in fantasy drawing books literature I like it. Except that usually it '. . . .
